While many people think of wide planks for a casual environment, history shows up that wide plank flooring has been used in every type of home and building that man has occupied.   From the most elegant castle and city loft, to the country farm home, wide plank flooring has always been highly desired.   The simple fact is, wide plank floors are highly desirable in any home anywhere for generations.

Nonetheless, one of the drawbacks to traditional solid wide plank floors has been that they are known to expand and contract greatly with changes in humidity and temperature and they are limited in the locations they can be installed.   By their nature also, the wider the solid flooring, the more likely they are to cup, twist and bow.   Moreover, they tended to be prohibitively expensive.   Therefore, over the years narrow strip and plank flooring was used an inexpensive alternative to the more desirable wide plank floors found in homes of distinction throughout the world.

However, with today’s modern technology, not only are wide plank floors more available and affordable, they are also superior to the old world floors in stability and performance.   While humidity and moisture can, and do, affect any wood product, engineered flooring is much more stable in width and in length by balancing the structure of the planks properly, and therefore making wider planks that are more stable than possible with a solid plank.

In addition, all of our Verde Grande collection floors feature a dry-sawn wear layer that is 4mm thick.   Dry-sawing gives your floor a true sawn appearance (exactly like a solid) rather than the unnatural appearance of a rotary peeled product and less susceptible to checking than a sliced face.   And the 4mm thickness is thicker than the industry average for a floor this thick and allows it to be resanded if required.*

At VERDE FLOORS we have created our Verde Grande collection to exemplify the best of the historic wide plank floors in wide variety of surface treatments to fit your exacting taste and lifestyle.   These surface treatments include:

The CLASSICO series features a smooth surface that gives the elegant appearance of a new floor.

ARCAICO is our handscraped series.  With its truly hand sculpted surface, the Arcaico series gives your floor a distinctive time worn appearance.   An appearance that suggests a long history of thousands of footfalls lighting up your home with love and happiness.

With our ANTICO series we have recreated the look and feel of the weather worn look.   A look that could be reminiscent of an old French country chateau or an English nobleman’s estate or even a simple city loft converted from another life.   As with the Arcaico series, the Antico series is a floor that truly says, ‘I have history and grace’.

The Verde Grande - Classcio collection:

WHITE OAK NATURAL – A smooth, full-filled plank with all the richness of an unstained floor.

WHITE OAK SMOKED – A smooth, un-filled plank, fumed to darkness the wood for an elegant aged appearance.

LARCH PINE NATURAL – A smooth, full-filled unstained plank with a natural pine appearance.

The Verde Grande - Arcaico collection:

WHITE OAK SMOKED – Similar to our Classico smoked in appearance, but handscraped to add a distinctive worn appearance.

WHITE OAK NUTMEG – Handscraped and fumed with a light stain for a warm golden appearance.

WHITE OAK SADDLE – Handscraped with a warm medium brown stain that will go with any décor’.

The Verde Grande - Antico collection:

WHITE OAK BLANCO SMOKED –Wirebrushed to give depth to the grain and fumed to darken the wood.   Next, it is over stained with a white stain that is wiped from the surface so that it primarily stays in the lower grain and allows the fumed wood color to come through.

WHITE OAK EBONY SMOKED –A truly unique look.   After the planks are wirebrushed, they are exposed to a flame to darken the entire plank and then finished, giving them a dark almost black appearance, but with shades of the fumed wood highlighting each plank.

WHITE OAK NERO –Similar to the Blanco, Nero is wirebrushed to give depth to the grain and fumed to darken the wood.   Then it is over stained with a black stain that is then wiped from the surface so that it is in the lower grain and allows the fumed wood color to come through.   A truly stunning floor.

WHITE IVORY OAK – If a wirebrushed look with a lighter overall appearance is what you desire, our Antico Ivory is the answer.   Over stained with white and wiped to expose the natural white oak below, Ivory brightens any décor with its fine weathered look.
